  • April 2004: Official Opening of Luke Center for Public Service
  • Sometime in 2005: Punahou Sustainability Initiative
  • Spring 2006: Punahou Sustainability Summit
  • July 2006: Case Middle School awarded LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council
  • July 2006: Learning Fellowship awarded to teachers to explore ways of integrating sustainability issues into English, Social Studies, and Science curriculum in sophomore year.
  • January 2007: Trustee and Presidential Challenge to the Punahou Community
  • February 2007: Initial Presentation to Sophomore assembly: challenge to sophomores and to teachers to integrate discussion of energy issues into regular curriculum.

ENERGY:
  • Reduce Punahou’s campus energy consumption by 50% by 2016; and by 25% by 2011.
  • 25% of Punahou’s campus energy will be from renewable energy sources by 2016
GARBAGE:
  • Reduce Punahou’s solid waste consumption (paper, plastic, glass, metal, etc.) by 50% by 2016, and by 25% by 2011
WATER:
  • Reduce Punahou’s potable (drinkable) water consumption by 50% by 2016, and by 25% by 2011
TRAFFIC:
  • Reduce the number of cars coming onto the Punahou campus by 25% by 2016
FOOD:
  • Students are choosing healthy foods
  • We are buying more local foods
  • We are growing some of our own foods
  • Punahou Food Services and Operations are seen as a model of sustainability
